The monopoly of the attorneys will lead to loss of their independence and the increase in fees for services.

This was stated by Executive Director of the Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union (UHHRU) Arkadiy Bushchenko.

Monopoly can be fully controlled by the state being dependent on the prices, ethics and many other issues. The state will gain its end… The privileges are not given for independence. They are given for loyalty, special services and benefits to the sovereign,” the human rights activist said.

In addition, the state could still intervene in the regulation of prices for attorneys’ fees.

The monopolization will result in the increase in prices. You control the market and oust competitors. The Bar thinks it will fake the state out. But I do not know the examples in history where you can fake the state out for a long time. The state will take on the regulation of prices and the Bar will be very sorry,” Arkadiy Bushchenko said.

According to him, the state falls into the same trap it fell in 1996, when the prosecutor’s office was mentioned in the Constitution.

They will realize this trap in a year. Then two dozen human rights organizations and several coalitions will think how to live with such a stupid thing. Millions of dollars will be spent to vanish it,” the human rights defender predicted.

The UHHRU human rights activist emphasized that the monopoly did not always mean transparency for the society.

It will be very difficult to get the information about how the decisions on the functions will be made in this monopoly. This is a terrible centaur, which will lead to negative consequences,” he stressed.
