Amnesty International recognizes Natalya Sharina as prisoner of conscience

The Amnesty International human rights organization has recognized director of the Library of Ukrainian Literature in Moscow Natalya Sharina as prisoner of conscience.

The relevant statement of the organization has been published today.

Natalya Sharina spent two nights in a police cell and is currently under house arrest after ‘extremist books’ were allegedly found in the library where she works. She is a prisoner of conscience and could face up to five years in prison,” the Amnesty International statement reads.

The organization has also launched the urgent action.

Earlier, the Memorial Human Rights Center recognized Sharina as political prisoner.

Director of the Library of Ukrainian Literature Natalya Sharina was arrested after interrogation at the Investigation Committee in Moscow late October.
