Only one out of 330 judges, involved in the persecution of the Revolution of Dignity activists, was dismissed by the presidential decree over the past year.

The High Council of Justice of Ukraine (HCJ) considered 26 recommendations of the special ad hoc commission on dismissal of judges but submitted only 21 candidacies for consideration of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, LB.ua journalist Lesya Shutko writes in her article.

According to her, the HCJ did not give enough votes for dismissal in most cases.

The author cites the example of an absurd situation when the HCJ did not dismiss Podolsky district court judge Svitlana Zakharchuk, who revoked driving licenses of the Automaidan participants, but decided to prosecute Automaidan activists’ lawyer Roman Maselko.

Another high-profile example is HCJ’s refusal to dismiss Kyiv’s Dniprovsky district court judge Mykola Chaus, who revoked driving license of a man who had not taken part in the automobile rally to Mezhyhiria Yanukovych’s residence on December 29, 2013. Such a decision, according to many civic activists, was predictable because the judge is currently considering the case of UKROP party leader Hennady Korban.
