FSB wants to put Umerov to psychiatric hospital

The court hearing in the case of compulsory sending Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people Ilmi Umerov to a psychiatric hospital for carrying out forensic psychiatric examination is due to be held in the annexed Crimea on Thursday.

Umerov received the relevant notification during interrogation with FSB investigator, Head of the Kurultai Central Election Commission Zair Smedlyaev wrote on Facebook.

As reported, Umerov was detained in the annexed Crimea on May 12.

The investigators at the Crimean branch of Russia’s Federal Security Service launched a criminal proceeding against Umerov under Article 280.1 after his interview on Crimean Tatar ATR TV channel. He is accused of making public appeals and committing actions aimed at violating Russia’s territorial integrity.

Umerov said his words had been mistranslated and misunderstood. Umerov was released on travel restrictions. Lawyer Mark Feygin represents him in court.

In July, the Simferopol District Court dismissed the complaint about launching a criminal proceeding against Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people Ilmi Umerov.
