The investigators of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine (PGO) claim they have arrested the former deputy commander of the Kyiv company of the Berkut special riot police force, who has been wanted for committing crimes during Maidan protests.

He is suspected of illegal detention of Euromaidan activists overnight into January 23, 2014, in the Kriposny Lane in Kyiv, the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office reports.

The agency reminded that violence had been used against the activists and their bus was damaged in the Kriposny Lane.

In addition, the detainee is charged with forgery of official reports and giving willful false testimony to subordinate officers connected with prosecution of activists for serious crimes, on the basis of which they had been detained, held liable for alleged acts of hooliganism and taken into custody as a preventive measure,” reads the statement.

The detainee was notified of suspicion, and a motion for custodial detention as a preventive measure for him was submitted to a court.
