Pavlo Klimkin, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, condemned the destruction of Polish memorial in the village of Huta Peniatska in Lviv region.

“I am strongly condemning the act of vandalism on the Polish memorial. Such provocations will fail to quarrel us. And criminals must be punished”, said the Minister on his Twitter page.

On the morning of January 10 the police of Lviv received an information that vandals have smashed plates on the Polish memorial in the village of Huta Peniatska of the Brody region.

Law enforcement officers have opened a criminal proceeding under the Art 161 Part 3 (violation of equal rights of citizens based on their race, national origin or religious beliefs) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Penal part of the Article carries the punishment of imprisonment from five to eight years.

“It was an act of vandalism regarding the monument in memory of Poles, who were killed in 1944 in the village of Huta Peniatska. Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) calls for the immediate investigation of the case, to find the guilty and punish them”, – said in the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland.

Previously, such cases occurred with Ukrainian graves in the Poland.

Police does not indicate the exact time when the incident occurred, but multiple Russian media outlets reported about this on January 9 and revealed photos and videos from the place of the destroyed memorial.
