The national hotline for the prevention of domestic violence, human trafficking and gender discrimination received 16,685 calls for the first six months in 2016. The lion’s share, 93.1%, of calls related to to issues of domestic violence prevention.

Such data were given by the “La Strada-Ukraine” human rights organization, which supports the hotline, in response to information request from the Human Rights Information Centre.

About 150 calls from among the recorded talks related to the ATO issues. In particular, 38.1% of them concerned the post-traumatic stress disorder of servicemen.

About 27 calls (18.5%) related to violence in families of the ATO participants.

We have started to track this category officially only since the start of 2016, although we received such calls in the past year as well. Every fifth call, related to the ATO, was about violence in the families of servicemen. At first glance, it seems to be not too big figure, but the problem is much deeper and such calls become increasingly frequent,” said Olena Kryvuliak, the hotline department director at the La Strada-Ukraine.

The state does not keep statistics on violence in the families of ATO participants.

As a reminder, the awareness-raising campaign “War Which Does Not Let Go”, conducted with the support of the Ukrainian Women’s Fund, is ongoing in Ukraine.
