One in four surveyed IDPs is not going to return home for permanent residence in next few years.

This is reported by the OstroV media outlet, referring to the survey conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology.

54% of respondents consider their current situation as temporary and would like to return home. 26% of respondents intend to return home in next few years while others are undecided yet,” researcher Maryna Shpiker commented on the study results.

According to her, the internally displaced persons (IDPs) named the main conditions, needed to return home.

Half of the respondents await the end of hostilities, and about the same number want Donbas to be returned under the control of the Ukrainian government. About a third said they would return if there were normal conditions there,” Shpiker said.

The sociologists conducted the survey in form of 425 semi-structured interviews and 200 telephone interviews in the towns with the population of 165,000 people of Donetsk, Luhansk, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia and Kharkiv regions in October 2015.

One of the study components was ten comprehensive interviews and focus groups with the activists, local officials and active representatives of the internally displaced persons.
