The police of Donetsk region have intensified searches for people who have gone missing in ATO area since the beginning of 2014.

The press service of the Donetsk region police department reported this on Wednesday.

About 1,500 people are considered missing now, more than half of them went missing in the occupied territory.

While in some cases the investigation reached a deadlock due to the inability to get to the occupied territory for carrying out priority actions, there are chances to find traces of missing people in the liberated towns, the press service noted.

Thus, the Donetsk region police are investigating the murder of a man who was captured by militants in 2014.

26-year-old Kharkiv resident went to Donetsk region in June 2014. He wanted to take the family of his friend out of danger, but did not reach the destination and went missing.

The young man was seen the last time in Lymansky district – the local residents reported that he had been detained at the “DPR” roadblock.

The police have a reason to believe that the remains of the man were found buried in the woods near Yampol town on September 14.

The police have launched a range of investigative and operational measures to establish the identity of the deceased. The starting point was two car plates, found under the bones.

The examination revealed that the plates belonged to a Ford Scorpio car, registered as a vehicle of a Kharkiv resident born in 1988, who went missing two years ago.

Currently, molecular and genetic testing and other examinations have been carried out to confirm the identity of the deceased.

The police check all versions of the man’s death, though one of the main versions is murder by members of the illegal armed formations.
