Witnesses for prosecution not come to court hearing in Chiygoz case – lawyer

The witnesses for prosecution did not come to the court hearing in the case of Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Ahtem Chiygoz in Crimea.

Chiygoz’s lawyer Nikolai Polozov posted this on Twitter on November 9.

“The witnesses have not appeared by afternoon, the prosecutor asks to change the procedure for presentation of evidence and to examine written case files,” the lawyer wrote.

Polozov also announced that the next meeting in Chiygoz case would start with a 10-minute break due to communication problems.

Earlier, Polozov reported that three witnesses had said nothing about the actions of the accused during the trial.

As a reminder, Ahtem Chiygoz was arrested in January 2015 for participating in a rally in support of the territorial integrity of Ukraine in front of the Supreme Council of Crimea on February 26, 2014. Then the protesters opposed the pro-Russian activists, including those from the Russian Unity party. Russian de facto authorities of Crimea accused Chiygoz of organizing mass riots.
