The Cherkasy Court of Appeal has released the suspect in the murder of journalist Vasily Sergiyenko, the guard of the former member of the Party of Regions political party Hennady Bobov, from custody.

As reported by Heavenly Hundred Lawyers group on its Facebook page.

A preventive measure in the form of a house arrest with a bracelet was chosen for the defendant in the murder case.

It is noted that, as of 4:55 pm, about 40 people have blocked the cell with the suspect in it and the court itself. One of the activists took the documents with the court decision.

After two hours of blocking, the investigator of the Main Department of the National Police in Cherkasy region came to the courtroom and announced a new suspicion to Vadym Melnyk – creation of a criminal organization. Now the judges have 72 hours to choose a new measure of restraint for Melnyk.

As a reminder, on April 5, 2014, a social activist and journalist Vasily Sergiyenko was found dead in a forest, 15 km from the Korsun-Shevchenkivskyi town in Cherkasy region.

The day before that, he was abducted from his own house, along the way he was beaten and tortured. The colleagues of the activist believe that the attack was ordered by Hennady Bobov, former regionalist and a People’s Deputy of the Revival political party, who is also a figurant of Sergiyenko’s investigative journalism.

As reported by Censor.Net, People’s Deputy Tetiana Chornovol has previously stated that Bobov tried to “hush up” Sergiyenko’s case “at all levels”. Employees of the Main Department of the National Police in Cherkasy region by the procedural leadership of the Regional Prosecutor’s Office have detained the suspect, who is accused of the organization of murder of journalist and Maidan activist Vasily Sergiyenko, in Kyiv on Tuesday, May 16. The detainee was the former chief of security of one of the People’s Deputies, who worked for him in 2014. Melnyk was hiding from the investigation after the arrest of the perpatrators of the murder and was wanted.
