On February 12 at 2 p.m Human Rights Agenda invites international organisations and embassies working in Ukraine to the presentation of the human rights defenders’ position regarding the adopted amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine as pertaining to justice (Section 8 “Justice”).

Meeting will be held in Radisson Hotel, Yaroslaviv Val Street, 22 (Presidential Suite room).

Ukrainian Parliament has recently adopted the long-expected amendments to the Constitution as pertaining to a justice sector reform. In spite of the list of quite positive changes, the draft of the Constitution contains 5 threats to human rights which were ignored by MPs.
In case the amendments to the Constitution are adopted in the proposed form, Ukrainians will have to give up on the perspective of the international tribunal for the shot-down Malaysian Boeing, on cleaning judicature from dishonest people in long robes and on an effective reform of the Prosecutor’s office. Lawyers will receive monopoly on legal assistance in the worst sense of the word while citizens will still be deprived of the right to file a complaint to the Constitutional Court.

During the event, Volodymyr Yavorsky, Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union, Arkadiy Bushchenko, Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union, and Oleksandra Matviychuk, Center for Civil Liberties will present Human Rights Defender’s Position Paper Regarding Constitutional Reform as Pertaining to Justice Sector and 5 Threats to Human Rights in Adopted Amendments to the Constitution as pertaining to justice reform.

Tetyana Pechonchyk, Human Rights Information Center, will moderate the discussion.

Simultaneous interpretation will be provided.
