The Public Integrity Council wishes to meet with President Petro Poroshenko to explain him the danger of dishonest judges passing to the Supreme Court.

As reported by the Ukrainian News, this was stated by heads of the Public Integrity Council (PIC) at a briefing that was held on Tuesday.

“We are ready to tell (Poroshenko – ed.) why this competition, unfortunately, is not exemplary… It is the President who will be responsible if dishonorable judges win will be in the new Supreme Court”, – said Nataliia Sokolenko, member of the PIC.

The directorship of the Council recognizes that the President has no direct influence on the judicial branch of power, but according to them, he is the guarantor of the Constitution and therefore must ensure the right of citizens to a fair trial.

At the same time, Vitaly Titych, coordinator of the Council, called on the High Qualification Commission of Judges to publish all the scores and calculations of the final results of the candidates – the winners of the competition to the Supreme Court.

In his opinion, the calculation of the final results by the Qualification Commission was non-transparent.

As a reminder, on July 27, the High Qualification Commission of Judges have announced the lists of 120 winners of the competition for the positions in the new Supreme Court. A total of 320 candidates, among them are judges, lawyers, scientists and specialists with a combined experience.

According to the Anti-Corruption Action Center, 80% of old judges with doubtful reputation will get in the Supreme Court through the competition.

Mykhailo Zhernakov, representative of the Reanimation Package of Reforms, wrote that “30 out of 120, exactly 25% of the winners of the competition to the Supreme Court are disreputable”.

The USA also doubts the integrity of the candidates to the new Supreme Court.

At the same time, President Petro Poroshenko expressed great satisfaction with the way the competition for positions of judges in the new Supreme Court of Ukraine was held and called it exemplary.
