The Russian Investigative Committee has extended the period of investigation for the case of Ukrainian pilot Nadiya Savchenko until November 13, a period of six months.

This was reported by Savchenko’s lawyer, Nikolay Polozov, on his Twitter-page.

He added: “The main goal of the Russian authorities in Savchenko’s case is to not investigate, to break the spirit of Nadiya, and break the spirit of Ukraine.

According to him, tomorrow the investigative committee will make a request at a meeting of the Basmanny Court of Moscow for the extension of Nadiya Savchenko detention until November 13. He notes that the detention will most likely be extended for another month, as an extension of more than 12 months can only be implemented by the Moscow City Court.

Polozov considers these actions by the Russian authorities to be a reaction to Free Savchenko Global Day, a worldwide campaign in support of the pilot, which will be held on May 11, her birthday.

Earlier, Savchenko’s lawyers called on supporters to send their birthday greetings to her mailing address at “Federal State Institution Investigatory Isolation Ward 1 of Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in Moscow 107076, Matrosskaya Tishina Street 18.” It is advised that letters be written in Russian.

Nadiya Savchenko is being illegally held in Russia. She is accused of involvement in the murder of Russian journalists in the Luhansk region and of an illegal border crossing. Lawyers claim that the she was kidnapped in Ukrainian territory and moved to Russia.
