Ukrainian war photographer, volunteer severely beaten in Kyiv

War photographer and volunteer Serhiy Morhunov was severely beaten in downtown Kyiv.

Mustafa Nayyem, lawmaker from the Bloc of Petro Poroshenko faction, posted this on Facebook.

Overnight into Sunday, our friend, war photographer, cameraman and volunteer Serhiy Morhunov was severely beaten in downtown Kyiv,” the MP wrote.

According to volunteer Serhiy Lystopad, the war photographer was not robbed. His belongings and money were not taken.

We do not know anything about what happened so far. Serhiy only remembers that he was hit on the head from behind and then was beaten in the face. He does not remember who beat him, when and where. However, he said he had been beaten so severely he said his surname was Herasimov when was taken to hospital and was able to recall his real name only in the second half of the day,” Serhiy Lystopad posted on Facebook.

A man was diagnosed with a brain injury, brain hemorrhage, fracture of the lower jaw, a broken nose, a broken frontal bone, partial memory loss. Doctors determined his condition as serious.

The MP called on witnesses to give testimony.

The police have taken the data of doctors. On Wednesday, Serhiy’s mother will write an official statement because he is unable to do this,” Nayyem noted.
