The non-governmental Crimean Tatar organizations, registered in the annexed Crimea, have asked prosecutor Natalya Poklonskaya to ban the activities of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people.

As reported, Prosecutor of the Russian occupying authorities in Crimea Natalya Poklonskaya handed over a copy of the lawsuit to the Russian Supreme Court of Crimea with the request to ban the activities of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people to Deputy Head of the Mejlis Nariman Dzhelyal.

Poklonskaya explained her decision by saying that “the prosecutor’s office of the Republic of Crimea has been recently receiving the complaints from the Crimean Tatar people, including the leaders of the Crimean Tatar organizations, with the request to recognize activities of the organization, not registered in the Russian Federation, illegal and provocative.”

Nariman Dzhelyal posted the copy of the appeal of the Crimean Tatar NGOs on his Facebook page, Avdet Crimean Tatar newspaper reports.

The appeal to the prosecutor’s office was signed by five organizations – “Qırım Birligi”, “Crimean Tatars are Crimean reliance”, “Committee of the Crimean Tatar youth”, “Council of Elders of the Crimean Tatar”, “National Cultural Autonomy of the Crimean Tatars in Sudak.”

In particular, the applicants are outraged by “the continued attempts of the unregistered organization ‘Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people’ and its supporters to discredit the hardworking Crimean Tatar people and incite ethnic hatred in Crimea.”
