Andriy Danyliuk was beaten to death in the Khmelnytsky remand prison and his wife was subsequently threatened.

As Radio Liberty reports, wife of the killed convict, Yana Mahelat believes it was a contract murder as he allegedly could prove the involvement of the penitentiary facility executives in drug traffic.

She was informed about the death of her husband by telegram the next day. They said he had a heart attack and later that he was trying to escape and oppose his transfer to the colony. But finally it was established that the man was beaten to death: he was handcuffed and beaten with a hammer as evidenced by traces on his body and head.

My husband had information about the high-ranking people in the Penitentiary Service department in Khmelnytsky region, specifically about their involvement in drug trafficking and corruption in Khmelnytsky remand prison. And they knew about it,” the widow said.

She says she was threatened and hinted that it was dangerous to drive a car, recalling she has a young son.

The Khmelnytsky prosecutor’s office informed that the case under the article “intentional homicide in excess of justified defense or measures to apprehend the offender” while transferring the convict was being investigated. Two representatives of the penitentiary service are involved in the proceeding.
