Euromaidan activist Kolomiets to be tried in Crimea

The prosecutor’s office of the occupied Crimea has submitted the case against Euromaidan activist Andriy Kolomiets to the Kyivsky District Court of Simferopol.

The prosecutors accuse the Maidan activist of an assassination attempt on the Berkut special police force officers in 2014.

The indictment was approved by so-called “prosecutor of Crimea” Natalia Poklonska.

“According to the investigators, Kolomiets, being a member of the extremist organization, the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA), attempted the life of two officers of the Berkut special police force Crimean department by throwing firebombs at them during the riots in Kyiv in January 2014. He also stored and transported drug crops on a large scale,” reads the statement of the press service of the prosecutor’s office.

Kolomiets is charged with a crime under Part 3 of Article 30, Part 2 of Article 115 (assassination attempt on two persons based on political and ideological hatred), Part 2 of Article 228 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal purchase, storage and transportation without intent to sell parts of plants containing narcotic drugs on a large scale).

Currently, Kolomiets is kept in custody.

As reported, May 15, 2015, the same court found Euromaidan activist Oleksandr Kostenko guilty of assaulting a Berkut officer and possession of firearms. He was sentenced to four years and two months in prison. Later, the term was reduced by three months.
