Mejlis of Crimean Tatar People: Sixteen persons gone missing, eleven considered dead in occupied Crimea

Sixteen persons have gone missing and eleven are considered to be dead for the period of occupation of Crimea by the Russian Federation.

Eskander Bariev, the representative of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People and the Committee to Protect Rights of Crimean Tatar People, said this on Thursday, Interfax-Ukraine news agency reports.

The total number of the killed persons, known to us, is eleven people. Sixteen people, according to our information, have gone missing,” he said at the briefing.

He noted that there were people, whose work is related to participation in the Crimean Tatar movement, the public initiative “Ukrainian National House of Crimea”, as well as activists of Automaidan and Euromaidan among the missing and the dead.

In turn, President’s Commissioner for Crimean Tatar People, MP from the Block of Petro Poroshenko faction, Mustafa Dzhemilev noted that the atmosphere of fear was trying to be created in Crimea.

They kidnap the most talented and courageous, but not necessarily activists. They are trying to create the atmosphere of fear,” Dzhemilev said at the briefing.

July 14, the UN human rights monitoring mission informed in its report of at least one summary execution, ten enforced disappearances, which could result of in death of the victims. The recorded cases occurred in January 2014 – May 2016.
