Olena Zerkal, official representative of Ukraine at the hearing in the International Court of the United Nations, asks the court to apply temporary measures against Russia, until the essence of the case is solved.

As reported by Evropeiska Pravda (European Truth), she stated this in her speech at the meeting of the International Court of Justice in The Hague.

Olena Zerkal, in particular, noted that the number of shots fired in the east of Ukraine confirms that Russia supplies weapons for the militants.

“Only in Avdiivka the number of fired shots has reached almost 50,000 units in the last few weeks. This amount of ammunition is equivalent to 80 filled freight cars. At the same time, official representative of the President of the Russian Federation expressed hope that the militants in the east of Ukraine will not run out of the ammunition. Are there any doubts about who supplies this ammunition? No. The Russian Federation does this”, – she said.

Olena Zerkal stressed that in this situation Ukraine expects from the International Court to implement temporary measures. One of such measures is directly prohibit Russia from further supporting pro-Russian militants.

As a reminder, on March 6, court hearings on Ukraine’s lawsuit against the Russian Federation begin at the United Nations International Court in The Hague.

Process concerns Russia’s violation of the provisions of the UN Conventions on Combating the Financing of Terrorism and on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination. On January 27, Ukraine has submitted corresponding materials to the court.

Court hearings will be held from March 6 to March 9 in open mode at the Peace Palace. The hearing began today at 11:00 am with introduction of Ukrainian side. On March 7, floor will be given to the representative of Russia.

Olena Zerkal, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, took the lead of Ukrainian delegation at the hearings in The Hague, where the highest judicial body of the UN system operates.
