Ukrainians resort to free lawyers to solve social issues mostly

Three months of providing legal assistance in civil and administrative cases have witnessed that people are mostly concerned about social assistance and housing problems.

Social assistance and housing problems are the most popular matters of concern of people, who appeal to the local centers for providing free legal aid.

This is evidenced by statistical data published on the website of the Coordination Center for Legal Aid.

In particular, free secondary legal assistance is usually provided on social security (15%), housing problems (13%), family law (9.8%), inheritance (9.1%), and land issues (8.7%).

A total of 18,600 people resorted to the local centers for providing free secondary legal assistance during three months. Of them, the aid, including with the involvement of a lawyer, was provided approximately every fifth case. The other issues were addressed at the pre-trial level.

As for age and gender distribution of customers who appealed to the local centers for providing free legal assistance, 58.9% of them were women, 41.1% were men.

46.4% of them were aged between 35 and 60 years old, 38.4% – over 60 years old, 14.7% – 18-35 years old, 0.4% were up to 14 years old.

The system of free legal assistance in civil and administrative cases to low-income people has been provided in Ukraine since July 1, 2015.

This assistance is provided at 100 local centers for providing free secondary legal assistance.

Such assistance may be given to disadvantaged persons, orphans, children deprived of parental care, refugees, war veterans (including ATO participants with status of combatants) and other groups.
