The EU may postpone decision on visa-free regime for Ukrainians, as well as citizens of Georgia and Kosovo until September.

This is reported by The Wall Street Journal. According to the article, some EU members, particularly Germany and France, expressed new concerns about granting free travel opportunities to these countries, UNIAN reports.

Among the reasons causing concerns is that, particularly, visa agreement could create new security problems amid terrorism threats.

The European Union intends to develop a mechanism for suspending the visa-free regime for all the countries which it exists with. In particular, as European Commission Vice President Frans Timmermans announced early May, “after lengthy discussions with the Member States, we offer to strengthen the mechanism for suspension of visa-free regime for all the countries which it concluded with.”

According to Timmermans, the Commission will have the right to launch the process of suspension of visa-free regime on its own initiative. The European Commission’s legislative proposal must be approved by the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union.
