The Ukrainian Embassy in Russia sent a note to the Russian Foreign Ministry which requests the Russian government to grant Ukrainian pilot Nadiya Savchenko’s request to transfer her from the city hospital back to prison.

This was stated in a document which was made public by Savchenko’s lawyer, Mark Feygin, on his Twitter page.

The note also says that Nadiya Savchenko has problems with access to her lawyers and a consular officer from the Embassy.

Earlier, another lawyer, Ilya Novikov, reported poor hospital conditions on his Facebook page.

“Very little air or light, and walks and visits from family members are not stipulated. The mattress is soaked with the smells of bedridden patients. The dying who cannot walk are often brought into this unit,” wrote Ilya Novikov.

On the first day, security brought Savchenko in the shower and the toilet in handcuffs, as she is classified in the Federal Penitentiary Service reports as “prone to escape, violence and suicide.” The administration did not allow her lawyers to meet with Savchenko one on one, so they tried to have some privacy by speaking Ukrainian. According to Ilya Novikov, the procedure for obtaining permission to meet is too complicated. It took the lawyer 5 hours.

Novikov also added that since it is not known how much Nadiya Savchenko will stay in the hospital, birthday greetings, which will be on May 11th, are best addressed to the prison: “Federal State Institution Investigatory Isolation Ward 1 of Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in Moscow 107076, Matrosskaya Tishina Street 18”.
