Ukrainian and Polish journalists called for the release of their colleague Maria Varfolomeyeva, held captive by “LNR” militants.

According to the Independent Media Trade Union of Ukraine, the third forum of the Ukrainian and Polish journalists, which took place in Kazimierz Dolny, Poland, adopted the statement in support of Ukrainian journalist Maria Varfolomeyeva, held captive in Luhansk.

Maria Varfolomeyeva has been illegally held in captivity of the self-proclaimed “Luhansk People’s Republic” on the trumped-up accusations since January. The journalists point out that this is another violation of human rights.

The Ukrainian and Polish media workers call for immediate decision on release of the journalist.

The authors of the statement also noted that the number of captive journalists had recently decreased significantly.

As a reminder, the militants demanded to release a criminal, sentenced for crimes committed several years ago and not related to the events in eastern Ukraine, in exchange for Maria Varfolomeyeva. When the Ukrainian side agreed, the militants changed requirements. The Patriot group and the Security Service of Ukraine claim they are dealing with the issue of journalist’s release, but there is still no result.
