In occupied Crimea, Ukrainian Volodymyr Prisich, who under tortures was forced to call himself an accomplice of “Crimean saboteurs” in order to reveal this in the mass media, was sentenced to 3 years imprisonment.

As reported by the Crimean Human Rights Group (CHRG), Kryllo Pavel, judge of the Gagarinsky District Court of Sevastopol, handed the verdict on May 18.

According to the CHRG, the criminal article, under which the Kharkiv citizen was convicted, has nothing to do with the “case of Ukrainian saboteurs”. The verdict states that Volodymyr Prisich was found guilty under part 2 of Article 228 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Illegal Acquisition, Storage, Transportation, Making or Processing of Narcotic Drugs).

At the same time, a video published by the Russian state television channel Russia-24 showed that Volodymyr Prisich gave confessions of espionage during the interrogation.

In the video Volodymyr is also accused of being an accomplice of “Ukrainian saboteurs” detained by the FSB on the border with Crimea in early August 2016.

At the court hearing, Volodymyr Prisich said that he gave all the confessions under torture.

At the end of the court hearing, Ukrainian stated that all charges of storage and transportation of drugs were fabricated by the FSB after the accusation of espionage completely collapsed.

“I completely do not agree with the charges against me, because I am absolutely innocent, I am not guilty of the incriminated crime, since FSB agents are trying to impose a crime on me. They believe me to be a spy, but who failed to prove it and thus decided to isolate me from society by a frank provocation – “the sudden appearance” of a drug package in my car’s cabin in half a day since my actual detention”, – said Prisich.

Volodymyr Prisich told the court that he was detained on August 13, 2016, at 11:30 a.m. in Sevastopol. He also stated that all his belongings were seized after the detention, a bag was put on his head and he was driven to Simferopol. After that, he was tortured with electricity, thus forcing him to confess in espionage to the camera. In the evening, FSB officers brought the Ukrainian to Sevastopol after 9:00 p.m. the same day and supposedly found parcels with marijuana in his truck. Prisich claims that drugs were planted into his car after his detention, because his car keys were seized in the morning.

Prisich also told the court that the investigator himself filled out the report with confessions after the drugs were found and forced Prisich to sign it in order to avoid a more serious charge of espionage.

Lawyers of the Ukrainian stated that the case is completely fabricated by Russian special services and filled an appeal with the demand to fully acquit Prisich.

As a reminder, in the period from August to November 2016, 9 citizens of Ukraine were detained in Crimea. FSB calls them “members of the sabotage and terrorist group of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine”. Among the detainees: Yevgen Panov, Andriy Zakhtiy, Redvan Suleymanov, Volodymyr Prisich, Dmytro Shtyblikov, Oleksiy Bessarabov, Volodymyr Dudka, Glib Shabliy, Oleksiy Stogniy.

Crimean Human Rights Group has repeatedly stated that citizens of Ukraine, who were detained in Crimea in the period from August to November 2016 in the case of so-called “Ukrainian saboteurs”, are imprisoned for political reasons in violation of the fundamental rights and freedom, in other words are political prisoners.
