The High Council of Justice of Ukraine (HCJ) has not approved dismissal of Taras Lishchuk, the judge of the Obolonsky District Court in Kyiv, who ruled to arrest Euromaidan activist, for breaking the oath.

The HCJ considered on Thursday the findings of the disciplinary section and the ad hoc commission for verifying the judges of courts of general jurisdiction in the case of judge Lishchuk. In January 2014, the mentioned judge unfoundedly arrested Euromaidan activist, photographer Maryan Havryliv for two months, Ukrayinski Novyny Ukrainian news portal reports.

The HCJ could not consider the dismissal of judge Lischuk for almost a year because he was drafted into the army.

Having considered the issue, the HCJ refused to submit recommendation for dismissal of judge Lischuk to the President. Seven Council members voted for the dismissal, eight members voted against.
