The investigative bodies of the prosecutor’s office will hand over the files of criminal proceedings to the State Bureau of Investigation when it will start to work.

The investigative bodies of the prosecutor’s office will carry out the pretrial investigation by that time.

The relevant explanation was provided by the High Specialized Court of Ukraine for Civil and Criminal Cases.

The files should be transferred within three months after the State Bureau of Investigation starts to perform the functions of pretrial investigation.

That is, the provisions of the Code of Criminal Procedure of Ukraine takes effect not when the law, which will regulate the activities of the State Bureau of Investigation Ukraine as the public body, enters into force but when the Bureau starts to perform the functions of pretrial investigation,” reads the explanation.

As a reminder, the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine lost the powers to investigate a number of cases, including the crimes against Euromaidan and corruption cases, on March 1. It should hand over the files to the State Bureau of Investigation. However, a collapse of the investigation occurred since the Bureau had not started to operate.
