Investigation against security official, who ordered disperse students on Maidan, completed

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine has completed the investigation against former chief of the public security department of the main department of the Ukraine’s Interior Ministry in Kyiv Oleh Marynenko, who ordered the Berkut special riot police force to disperse protesters on the Independence Square in Kyiv on the night of November 30, 2013.

This is reported by the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine.

According to the report, he is also suspected of issuance of the order to Berkut officers and the servicepersons of the internal troops to disperse protesters and journalists near the Presidential Administration on December 1, 2013.

The Office notes that more than 80 protesters got injuries during the first crackdown, while 29 protesters and 22 journalists got injuries during the second one.

In addition, the security official is accused of the fact that 26 police officers had got injuries.

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine recalls that 16 people, including former senior state officials and law enforcement officials, were served a notice of suspicion against as a result of the investigation into the crackdown on students on Maidan. The court considers five indictments out of this number.

As a result of the investigation into the events of December 1, five senior state officials and law enforcement officers and five police officers, who performed these attacks, were served a notice of suspicion of the use of violence and dispersal of protesters.
