The new law allows taking photos and videos of the police officers, as well as identifying them by the numbers on uniform and helmets.

This is stated in the results of the analysis of the Law of Ukraine “On National Police”, prepared by the legal department of the Institute of Mass Information following the request from the journalists.

According to Article 20 of the law, the journalists and all sorts of citizens have the right to fix a police badge by technical means.

A police officer, who serve in civilian clothes, is obliged to have a badge, unless the presence of the badge prevents him from conducting the covert investigative actions,” reads the law.

In addition, lawyer of the Institute of Mass Information Maksym Ratushny notes that the new law allows identifying the police departments as now the badge number will be indicated on the uniform and the helmet so that it can be read and fixed by technical means (except while performing secret tasks).

As a reminder, the Law of Ukraine “On National Police” entered into force on November 7.
